DURBAN CITY ORCHESTRA FESTIVE PROGRAMME

Music-lovers are invited get into the spirit of the season in the company of the Durban City Orchestra (DCO) as they perform a magnificent festive season-inspired programme of favourite Christmas songs, Yule-tide tunes and well-loved carols, at Rhumbelow Northlands Bowling Club on Sunday December 8 at 15h00.

The programme includes a host of Christmas favourites:  O little Town of Bethlehem, away in a Manger, Ding Dong Merrily on High, Hark the Herald Angels Sing, Silent Night, Once in Royal David’s City and Oh Holy Night.

Soloists for the concert will be singer multi-talented Rachel Nell, who usually plays the violin in the orchestra. This time around, she will showcase another musical talent, her voice – she will be singing. Audience members are invited to wear something suitably festive and Christmassy and will be given song sheets to sing along.

The orchestra, one of the longest running orchestras in the country, has a complement of approximately 30 active members who get together weekly. The orchestra includes two accomplished professional musicians in Charl van der Merwe as Resident Conductor and Jitske Brien as Concert Master, joined by guest artists.

It is advisable to pre-book tickets, however, unsold tickets are available at the door.
