Coming up at Durban Girls’ College this month is Missing, a play by the late South
African playwright Reza de Wet. Originally written in Afrikaans as MIS, the play was later translated into
English by Steven Stead (Executive Director of Kickstart Theatre Productions).
The play delves into the mystery behind two young women who have gone missing from a small town in the ‘platteland’ over two consecutive years when the circus had visited the town. It is now the following year and the circus has returned, and the people of the town are on edge as police roam the area, suspecting something of a similar nature may occur.
We meet a family living on a smallholding and enter into their lives at this tense and nerve-wracking time…
A wonderful blend of Realism, Magical Realism and evocative storytelling unravel the events and characters…
This production of Missing is performed by senior students at Durban Girls’ College and is directed by Wendy Watson, with a stunning set design by multi-award Set Designer Greg King (Creative Director of Kickstart Theatre Productions). Sound, lighting and special effects complete the intrigue provided by multi- talented Luke Holder.
The amateur production is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals Ltd. on behalf of Samuel French Ltd. www.concordtheatricals.co.uk
