COTA AUDITIONS

Amateur (ie performers unpaid) group looking for singers to audition for musical review.

The Company of Theatre Arts, COTA, is a long established amateur performance company, having put on highly professional shows at The Sneddon (Everything old is new again, To be Frank, Godspell), the Rhumbelow Theatre (The Good, Bad & Outrageous, Denim to Diamonds, Musical Mania, Rhythm of Life), the Westville Civic Centre (Stage & Screen, Blast thru the Past, One Hit Wonders), to name but a few.

“While the Company of Theatre Arts is an amateur organisation – in the sense that the performers do not get paid and many of them hold down full-time jobs as well - the standard is always consistently high. Rehearsals for a show can last two months. They’re demanding and discipline is strong. Members help with the creation of sets and backdrops as well as costumes and props. They do it because they love it and, from a professional performer’s point of view, it’s humbling to be reminded that the casts work at this level simply because they enjoy theatre work and have fun in the process. This tangible and infectious energy reaches across the footlights to the audience who respond in like fashion” (quoted from artSMart, article first published: 2007-05-1)

The Company’s aim is to stretch itself and its performers, and with that in mind, is producing a show to be hosted at The Heritage Theatre, Hillcrest from September 21 to October 3, 2010.

COTA is looking for singers, over the age of 18 years old, to audition for a part in this musical review. Auditions will be held at the Westville Athletic Club, 123 Maryvale Road, Westville, on July 18 from 14h00. Singers will be required to prepare accordingly, with their own backing track (preferably something upbeat and familiar), whilst also being available to audition for basic choreographed dance.

Please note that The Company of Theatre Arts is an amateur theatre club. Thus, rehearsals will be scheduled after hours and there is absolutely no payment to any cast member of the show.
