AFRICAN DRUMSHACK TURNS 10!

African Drumshack turns 10 this March and is celebrating its anniversary with an impressive line-up of live music and interactive drumming on March 20!

Established in 2001 at the Stables Market in Morningside, African Drumshack has been promoting drumming as a music form in its own right for ten years now. This community-based organization is committed to inspiring and introducing non-musicians to the world of music by active group participation using hand drums and percussion.

“Drumshack has been hosting community drumming on Friday and Sunday evenings for ten consecutive years!” says owner Jonathan Pimenta. “We have taught thousands of people of all ages and persuasions to overcome their inhibitions and join the world of musicians as an active participant and not a mere observer or audience member. African Drumshack has also been active with school programmes including the Grahamstown Foundation School Festivals as well as working closely with rehabilitation programmes and other community based projects. Our drummers have performed extensively in and around KZN.”

Appearing on the programme will be Durban’s hallmark reggae 10 piece band, The Meditators, with its new brass section! Also appearing will be Maisha, a World Music Band with awesome percussion and the acclaimed Woodpecker live drumming and percussion ensemble. Also on the cards will be fire performance from the Tony Hickman Group & Friends and African Drumshack Drummers who will offer live interactive drumming with the audience.

The 10th anniversary celebration takes place on March 20 at the Stables Lifestyle Market, Morningside. Doors open at 18h00 with bands starting at 19h30. Tickets R35 at the door. There will be a full bar, eats and treats and secure parking. Bookings and enquiries through Jonathan Pimenta on 083 704 4879 or email: drumshack@3i.co.za
