On March 8, the Centre for Jazz & Popular Music, (UKZN) hosts the critically acclaimed Durban ‘Art pop’ pianist, singer and songwriter Shannon Hope. She graduated from the University of KwaZulu-Natal and recently signed a full endorsement deal with world-renowned Japanese piano manufacturers Kawai Pianos. She is expected to release the much-anticipated follow-up to her debut release later this year. At her performance, she will showcase tracks from the new album and discussing the music industry, her career and songwriting.
Shannon has been tugging on South African heart strings since the release of her debut solo album in 2009 with her intriguingly powerful heart songs. With appearances at nearly every major festival around the country and a furious countrywide touring schedule, she has earned a reputation as one of the hardest-touring, self-managed solo artists on the national circuit, delivering an intensely honest personal commentary in a vocal epic that has mesmerized audiences countrywide.
