Childline KZN is celebrating 25 years of service to children and their families this year. To mark this important milestone, a function was held in thanks to all staff, partners, friends, donors, and the Board of Childline KZN for the sustainability of the organisation as well as the sponsors of the event such as Gooderson Leisure Group, Continental Bakery, Mayibuye Dance group, Diverse Art and Dance Agency, Darrius Pillay for entertainment as well as Printmarc and others for making the function possible.

The highlight of the evening was an emotive presentation by Linda Naidoo, Director of Childline KZN, showing the recent headlines over the past years regarding child abuse in the country as well as stories of victims, that tugged on the heart strings of all the guests that attended.

A painting by artist Nanda Sooben was up for auction on the evening. Ishwar Ramlutchman and Rajen Reddy were both bidders on the painting, however Ramlutchman counter-bid Reddy by offering R55,000 for the painting. Once he had won the bid, he donated it back to Childline KZN, making it available for Reddy to then bid for it for a total sum of R54,000. This allowed Childline KZN to receive R109,000 from the auction, which was a successful fundraising effort on their part.

Overall, they can be commended for their efforts in curbing abuse in the country and for helping to restore the lives of those who have been victims of horrendous acts. Naidoo said that, “those who come in as victims, leave as survivors” and this is due to the effort of the counsellors, programmes and the Crisisline.
