Digby
and The Lullaby are coming back to KZN to perform two shows only.
On piano
and lead vocals, Rouchelle Hubsch plays and sings with a haunting depth of
emotion that far surpasses her young age. As an only child, she found the piano
a profoundly rewarding companion. Now 22 years old and writing more than ever, she
has been performing live for just over two years and her on-stage experience is
much enhanced.
On
guitar and backing vocals, Darren Peens fell in love with music when he was
just six years old. Nowadays, armed with a Dictaphone a note pad and an
acoustic guitar, he never stops creating and loves sharing the stage with his
“favourite singer in the world”.
Digby
and The Lullaby thrive on intimate performances. The theatre is this band’s
first choice of venue. “It makes our connection with the audience so real and
tangible,” smiles Hubsch. The duo has just finished tracking their debut album
in New York with producer Kieran Kelly (Angus and Julia Stone, Sufjan Stevens) and
are aiming for an early 2013 release.
Live
performances to date include shows at The Chaplin in Port Elizabeth, Googies in
New York and the prestigious Witness Hilton Arts Festival in KZN two years
running – where extra seating had to be put in after their first performance. Fleur
du Lys’ theatre manager Ralph Piaden notes that they were ‘the most
complimented act’ in his theatre throughout the festival:
There will
be two performances, both starting at 20h00: November 28 at Bluestockings in
Kloof. (Phone 083 659 3628) and November 30 at St. Clements, 191 Musgrave Road
(Phone 031 202 2511)
