Neil Comfort
of the Rainbow Restaurant and Shawn Wehsling of Bluestockings are assisting the
owner of the Giba Cafe at Giba Gorge in opening up a live music platform. This
will take the form of a regular music event at what must be one of the most
beautiful venues within the Durban city limits and it has plenty of space for youngsters
to run free.
Titled Summer Sunday’s Live, the programme focuses
on jazz, afro-jazz, blues, singer/songwriter, acoustic – in fact, anything that
makes for a chilled Sunday afternoon vibe.
Well-known
singer Josie Field has agreed to open the first Summer Sunday's Live programme with regular partner and producer,
Kevin Leicher, joining her on second guitar. "From being considered 'not
good enough' for Idols six years ago
to receiving six South African Music Award (SAMA) nominations by 2012,
including Best Female Artist; Josie Field has had one of the more interesting
journeys through the South African music landscape. Her signature sound is a
potent mix of lyricism and fire, heartfelt issues and tender constructions. She
has a unique voice as well as vocal delivery style that sets her apart from the
sugar-coated pop princesses of the music world".
The
first Summer Sunday's Live takes place on November 18 from 14h00 at Giba Cafe
at Giba Gorge, 110 Stockville Road, Mahogany Ridge. Tickets: all persons (other
than cyclists) entering Giba Gorge MTB Park pay R10 at the gate which is
redeemable against their food and drinks bill at Giba Cafe. So, the event is
essentially free. Come rain or shine, the performance will go ahead as the
venue boasts ample covered seating. More information on 031 769 2964.
Artists/groups wanting to be
