Flatfoot Dance Company celebrates its 10th
anniversary year with a gala season at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre March 13 to
17.
Durban’s inimitable Flatfoot Dance Company celebrates
its 10th anniversary year with a gala season of dance theatre.
The season, called Last Thoughts, features two works on the programme and in keeping
with the celebration of 10 years, features a whole host of invited guest who
have worked with and collaborated with Flatfoot over the past 10 years. Flatfoot’s
long-time association and collaboration with Johannesburg’s Moving Into Dance
Mophatong sees Sifiso Kwyema return as guest choreographer to Flatfoot. His
lyrical and challenging style is sure to delight audiences in his collaboration
with the six resident dancers of the company.
Also on offer is artistic director, Lliane
Loots’ new work which is, as she explains, “a zeitgeist dance theatre work that
talks about being alive and present in South Africa in 2013”. Loots has
collaborated with long-time friend and collaborator, spoken word poet Iain ewok
Robinson and with local filmmaker Karen Logan to create a layered theatre
experience that also features breakdancers Preston Kyd and Bizzo (of Durban’s
031 Floor Assassins).
Last
Thoughts will run at Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre from
March 13 to 17. Opening night is a dazzling gala affair and also acts as a
fundraiser for the company. Tickets for this gala are R150 each, and tickets
for the rest of the run are R80 or R55 (student, scholar, pensioner).
