SKYE WANDA & THE ROCKET MEN

(Skye Wanda)

Skye Wanda from Durban will perform with her band The Rocket Men at The Bat Centre on March 30.

This urban songstress is on an experimental journey through hip hop and jazz. People call her “Phenomenal with a diva voice like Etta James and rhyme-skills like Lauren Hill”. She brings you relevant heart-felt lyrics over music. Inspired by love, social ills and happiness.

For this performance Skye Wanda will be backed by her tight band, The Rocket Men with Thobani Mbatha – a talent on keys, Mfundo Mgobozi – known for his funky breaks -  and bassist Bonga Xulu. Back-up girls Mpilo Hlongwa and Simphiwe Cele add the sweetest harmonies to round off the sound. They will perform a host of original tracks in English and isiZulu, swerving between afro-jazz, gospel, R&B and hip hop.

Skye (27) is a vocalist and rapper whose music infuses jazz, gospel, R&B and hip hop to create her own distinct and style and sound, rounded up with catchy melodies and fresh lyrics. Her vocal capabilities are rich and her performance skills moves people every time she gets onto a stage. It is no wonder that now she is ready for a new direction and challenge in her musical career. 2013 will see the release of newly-recorded music aiming at a bigger audience and will show another dimension of Skye Wanda as singer, lyric writer, composer and rapper. She writes her lyrics and music herself while enjoying her collaboration with musicians from various backgrounds. This year she will entice jazz, neo-soul and hip hop fans with her voice, charisma and unique style.

Skye Wanda will appear at the Afriportico Restaurant, BAT Centre, Durban, on March 30. The show starts at 14h00 and the entrance is R30. More information from Marlyn Knol on 079 707 7773 or email marlyn@isupportdoyou.com
