The Centre for Jazz and Popular Music’s next
free lunch-hour concert takes place on May 14 with Africa Plus.
Africa Plus is a newly formed jazz trio
comprising piano, bass and drums. The members include young musicians who
have studied jazz at UKZN and are quickly becoming highly sought-after in South
Africa as well as internationally. Combined, the members of Africa Plus have
toured extensively in countries such as USA, Canada, Bolivia, Argentina,
France, India, Mozambique, DRC, Swaziland and South Africa .
This is their first tour as a new form trio
outfit. The members are Prince Bulo (acoustic/electric bass), Lungelo Ngcobo
(Piano/synth) and Sphelelo Mazibuko (drums and effects).
Africa Plus draws musical influence from
rich traditional African elements with a base drawn from European advanced
harmonies. A vibrant outfit full of rhythmic complexities and melodies.
The concert takes place at 12h20 on May 14
at the Centre for Jazz and Popular Music at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. Entrance
