AFRICA PLUS

The Centre for Jazz and Popular Music’s next free lunch-hour concert takes place on May 14 with Africa Plus.

Africa Plus is a newly formed jazz trio comprising piano, bass and drums. The members include young musicians who have studied jazz at UKZN and are quickly becoming highly sought-after in South Africa as well as internationally. Combined, the members of Africa Plus have toured extensively in countries such as USA, Canada, Bolivia, Argentina, France, India, Mozambique, DRC, Swaziland and South Africa .

This is their first tour as a new form trio outfit. The members are Prince Bulo (acoustic/electric bass), Lungelo Ngcobo (Piano/synth) and Sphelelo Mazibuko (drums and effects).

Africa Plus draws musical influence from rich traditional African elements with a base drawn from European advanced harmonies. A vibrant outfit full of rhythmic complexities and melodies.

The concert takes place at 12h20 on May 14 at the Centre for Jazz and Popular Music at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. Entrance is free. More information from Thulile Zama or 031 260 3385 or email: thulilezama@gmail.com
