Forming
part of the New Music Indaba will be Duo FourIVTwo whichi features Magda de
Vries on concert grand marimba and Frank Mallows on vibraphone. Each being
master of his instrument, Frank and Magda formed Duo FourIVTwo in 2003.
Duo
FourIVTwo is passionate about performing South African compositions and
continues to strive to commission pieces for marimba-vibraphone duo. During
2013 they have premièred six newly-commissioned works.
In their
programme for the New Music Indaba they will present an all-South African
programme, featuring works by David Kosviner (now based in Vienna); Robert
Fokkens (lecturer at Cardiff University, Wales); Martin Watt (senior lecturer
at UCT); Fiona Tozer (curator of the 2013 New Music Indaba) and Clare Loveday
(composer in residence). Expect informative performances of visual spectacle
and rich, rhythmic sonorous sensations.
