Emerging
Eyes – Qal’ukubona #3 is an exhibition just opened
at the African Art Centre. It showcases the work of new artists who attended
The Business of Art courses presented by Curate.a.Space and sponsored by the
National Arts Council. This course is targeted at artists who make art but need
the skills and contacts to enter the Art World.
The exhibition consists of works by unknown
and exciting names in photography, drawing, sculpture and beadwork. For many,
this will be their first exhibition whilst others have been in the art scene
for some time but have used the courses to professionalise their practice in
relation to marketing, creating a portfolio and further
their contacts and opportunities in the art world.
The workshops have been held at Durban venues
such as the African Art Centre and Phansi Museum as well as Beautiful Things in
Eshowe. This presents an exciting opportunity for the viewer to discover new
artists and to support emerging talent.
The African Art Centre is situated at 94
Florida Road, Morningside. More information from the Director, Sharon Crampton,
