The Pietermaritzburg City
Orchestra will again present their annual festive season concert, aptly
entitled A Christmas Spectacular. The
concert, which takes place on November 29 at the Hilton College Theatre,
promises to be a delight to both young and old. Under the baton of resident
conductor Dave Plank, the orchestra will perform some old favourites, such as
Leroy Anderson's Christmas Festival
and Sleigh Ride, as well as some more
modern additions to the festive season repertoire.
Joining the orchestra once
again this year is soprano Haylea Hounsom, whose vocal talents are renowned,
both as a soloist, and as a member of the Take Five vocal ensemble. Haylea will
perform pieces such as Adolphe Adam's O
Holy Night, as well as some cheeky jazz numbers including the famous Santa Baby.
The orchestra is also
proud to introduce the début performance of The Three Tenors, consisting of
Christiaan Kotzé, Christian Sittmann and Martin van Vuuren. In addition to
joining Haylea in several numbers, they will also perform God Bless Us Everyone from Walt Disney's A Christmas Carol made famous by Andrea Bocelli.
The concert will also
include the world premiere of an arrangement of English and Irish folk music,
arranged by the orchestra's principal clarinetist, Peter van der Merwe.
The
concert, takes place on November 29 at 19h00 at Hilton College. Tickets R100 can
