Pulcinella's Secret
is a solo exhibition of acrylic paintings and drawings inspired by the
Pulcinella (Punch) character from commedia dell'arte by Trui Roozeveld van der
Ven. It is currently running at artSPACE Durban.
“In Italian and French, and probably a few other languages,
the expression ‘Pulchinella's Secret’ means that it is an open secret - that is,
in fact, not a secret at all, but public knowledge. We all know it, but we
don't say it. Ironically, in this world of commercial make-believe, my views
are occasionally blurred and at times it is hard to distinguish between genuine
and counterfeit, right and wrong. This dilemma was the starting point of the
works in this exhibition,” explains Roozeveld van der Ven.
Pulcinella's Secret
runs at artSPACE until March 23, to be officially opened on March 16 at 18h00
by Julie Frederikse.
Also opening on March 16 at artSPACE will be ABSA L’Atelier
Art Award KZN Exhibition in the Main Gallery and Floris van Zyl in the
Corridor.
