(“Shattered view of an
artist” – oil on canvas by WP van Heerden)
The Tatham Art Gallery’s Schreiner Gallery will host an
exhibition by WP van Heerden titled Shattered
Views from October 18.
In the Shattered Views
series, the artist explores the inequalities of the country in which we live,
observing small injustices that remain as a legacy of past wrongs. Each naïve
narrative painting is a subtle mockery of the status quo that keeps South
Africans in a state of separation and mutual suspicion.
There will be a right-brain exercise workshop on October 24 from
10h00 to 13h00. The group will converse and create an imaginary landscape with
their words, individually represented in diluted oil colour.
Shattered Views opens on October 18 at 10h30 for walkabout
at 11h00. It will run until December 6 at 17h00. WP van Heerden will be
painting in the Schreiner Gallery on December 6 from 10h00 to 16h00 and will be
happy to engage with visitors.
