AN EXTRAORDINARY EGG

An Extraordinary Egg by Leo Lionni is an international best-selling children’s classic reprinted after 68 years.

It’s an extraordinary day on Pebble Island for three frogs when one of them discovers a beautiful white egg. They’ve never seen a chicken egg before, but they’re sure that’s what this must be. So when the egg hatches and out crawls a long, green, scaly creature, they naturally call it ... a chicken! Children will love this hilarious story of mistaken identity.

‘Lionni’s mixed-media art … is particularly felicitous, and kids will love identifying the little alligator and laughing at the frogs’ mistake. Just the thing to lighten up a picture-book hour.’ – Kirkus Reviews

Lionni is an internationally known designer, illustrator and graphic artist with more than 40 highly acclaimed children’s books to his name. Born in Holland, he lived in Italy until he moved to the United States in 1939.
