Friends of Music’s next recital takes place
on March 15, 2017
NB: This
recital is taking place on a Wednesday instead of the usual Tuesday due to artist
availability.
Andrey Baranov is a winner of the Queen
Elizabeth International Violin Competition. He is also a winner of Benjamin
Britten and Henri Marteau International competitions and a prizewinner of more
than 20 other International Competitions including Indianapolis, Seoul, Sendai,
Isakadze, David Oistrach, Paganini (Moscow) International Competitions. He is
also the first Violinist of David Oistrakh’s Quartet.
Maria Baranova, sister of Andre, is a prizewinner
of the Russian Mazur competition for ensembles, and is the winner in the
International Duo Competitions with her brother.
The programme includes Giuseppe Tartini’s Sonata
in G Minor No 4 “The Devil’s Trill”; Tchaikovsky’s Souvenir d'un lieu cher, and Valse-Scherzo;
Niccolò Paganini’s La Campanella and Eugène Ysaÿe’s Sonata
for Violin Solo No. 4. Also to be performed will be Ernest Chausson’s Poème and Maurice Ravel’s Tzigane.
The Prelude Performer for the evening will
be Leila Poona, a 15 year old student at Crawford College La Lucia. She was
inspired by her father who was also a violinist. She loves the instrument as
she finds she can express her emotions through its beautiful melodic sounds.
Her current teacher is Elena Kerimova. Her programme is Danse Macabre by Camille Saint-Saens and Hungarian Dance No. 2 by Johannes
Brahms. Her accompanist is Liezl Maret Jacobs.
The recital takes place at 19h30 on March
15 at the Durban Jewish Centre, Tickets R100
(R80 FOM members and R20 orchestral & students) available at the
door.
