Durban's biggest comedy competition show takes place on May 19 and 20 at
the Bat Centre as 20 comedians take the stage over two nights in a unique
comedy competition.
The Next Comedy Generation series has been
running for one year and, to celebrate, 20 comedians compete for two grand comedy
prizes valued at R40,000.
The shows will be hosted by South African comedy legend Kurt Schoonraad,
owner of Cape Town Comedy Club and owner of Goliath Comedy Club Nicholas
Goliath.
Each night will have a different winner who will win an all-expenses
paid trip to perform at the two prestigious comedy clubs in Cape Town and
Johannesburg.
The Next Comedy Generation show has helped
groom over 30 new comedians across KwaZulu-Natal.
This month Savanna Premium Cider has come on board to assist the
development of young acts.
The show was conceptualised by Durban comedian Carvin H Goldstone to
help develop Durban's young comedy industry. The concept has become so
successful that it has now been expanded to Johannesburg and Cape Town with
Next Gen shows being held at Grand West Casino and Goliath Comedy Club.
"It’s very exciting and fulfilling to see these young comics come
so far so quick. A year ago we had so few acts in Durban and people were tired
of seeing the same people over and over. "Now we have over 30 new
comedians. That's 30 new points of view and 30 new points of funny. New styles
and skills," said Goldstone.
