The Intellectual Property Exhibition 2017 will run at The Plant, 5 Station
Drive in Durban from October 6 to 7.
“The
philosophy behind the event is to show that KZN is not only full of creativity,
but that creative people are monetizing their creativity, so they are able to
make a living, form part of a strong and viable creative sector and boost
tourism and job creation in our province and nation,” says Robin Opperman, Creative
Director of Umcebo Design who is co-ordinating the exhibition.
This year
the event takes a quantum leap from a conventional gallery exhibition and moves
to a public space (The Plant, 5 Station Drive). The event will be opened by
Rosemary Mangope, CEO of the National Arts Council. There will be live
graffiti, live painting, pop-up shops and exhibition and jewellery.
There is
also a Block Project, where a range of artists covering all ages, genders and
levels of experience have made a large piece of public art, on 15 x 15 cm
blocks. The piece will be on display and the organisers hope to sell that to a
buyer, to sponsor the 2018 Project.
The
Intellectual Property Exhibition 2017 opens on October 5 at 17h30 for 18h00 at
The Plant, 5 Station Drive. It then runs on October 6 from 09h00 to 15h00 and on
October 7 from 09h00 to 13h00. The opening and the event are free and open to
the public.
