MANCOSA will present the first of a series of book launches
by local authors, hosted by the Research Academy and MicroMega Publications.
Made in Chatsworth by Kiru Naidoo is a “kasi life” biography
of place peppered with personal memoir, which has become a literary genre in
its own right.
Originally pioneered by Es’kia Mphahlele in Down Second Avenue and Ronnie Govender
in his Cato Manor Stories, this
latest addition to this growing body of literature is from the stable of Durban
heritage publisher MicroMega.
It is described by Prof Imraan Buccus as “an unburdening
narrative where the writer shifts the weight of a tortured history of forced
removals and “separate development”, into a celebration of township life”.
The launch will take place on February 26, 2020, from 14h30 to
16h00 at Samora House, 2nd floor, East Wing, 2 Samora Machel Street, Durban
Central.
