(Madala
Kunene)
South Africans of all generations are
familiar with the tragic tales of forced removals, scattered through the
country’s history, removals that devastated whole communities and left them in
pieces. From Sophiatown to District Six, it is artists who would pick up these pieces
years later, and retell the forgotten stories of legendary personalities and
places that kept a cultural heart beating inside the body of a wounded country
(Ewok). No-one can tell the Umkhumbane story like Durban’s beloved “Bafo”,
Madala Kunene.
Kunene will perform at the KZNSA Gallery
166 Bulwer Road, on June 14 at 18h00. Admission R60 booked through the Arts
Cafe on 031 201 9969. Also available will be light meals, a full bar and
big-screen movies for the youngsters.
