It is that time of
year again when all roads lead to Durban’s iconic Currie’s Fountain, near the
Botanic Gardens on the Berea, for the city’s eagerly-anticipated traditional
Ingoma dance competition, Sishaya Ingoma.
Recognised as the only event of its kind in South Africa and presented free to the public, this annual celebration draws together dancers, families and cultural enthusiasts from across the province and beyond. Taking place on March 21, 2026, from 09h00, the competition offers audiences a thrilling day of rhythmic movement, powerful footwork and commanding performances that reflect the depth and richness of Zulu cultural heritage.
More than a contest, Sishaya Ingoma is a vibrant expression of identity, unity and community spirit, honouring tradition while creating an electrifying atmosphere that continues to captivate generations year after year.
